Dental implant technology is literally changing peoples’ lives, improving their overall health, appearance and well being. The latest advances in this field are making it possible for people to have this new lease on life even sooner. Until recently patients receiving dental implant treatment had to wait long time periods for their new teeth. “One of the biggest drawbacks to implant therapy was that we used to wait several months for the jaw bone to anchor the implant before we began making the replacement teeth” states Dr. Misch, “Today we use surgical techniques and devices that can allow immediate function on the implants.” This is known as immediate implant loading. Dental implant treatment options are currently available that make it possible to receive new implant replacement teeth in just one day. Recent advances allow placement of dental implants immediately following extraction of teeth and in many cases a new set of replacement teeth can be attached directly to the implants. This process can be used to replace a single tooth or all of the teeth. Techniques are in development using computer technology to allow implant surgery and delivery of a full set of teeth in as little as one hour. Dr. Misch has performed research on new products using this approach and has lectured at national meetings on this topic.
